Generative AI Policy

The authors are required to disclose any use of generative AI in scientific writing at the time of manuscript submission. The following guidelines apply solely to the writing process and do not pertain to the use of AI tools for data analysis or drawing research insights:

  1. Generative AI and AI-assisted technologies may only be used in the writing process to enhance the clarity, readability, and linguistic quality of the manuscript.
  2. Such technologies must be employed under human supervision and control, and authors must thoroughly review and revise the generated content, as AI may produce authoritative-sounding text that is inaccurate, incomplete, or biased.
  3. Authors bear full responsibility and accountability for all content in their work.
  4. Authors must not list or cite AI or AI-assisted technologies as an author or co-author, as authorship entails responsibilities and tasks that only humans can fulfill.
  5. The use of generative AI or AI-assisted technologies in scientific writing must be declared by adding a statement at the end of the manuscript upon initial submission.
  6. This statement will appear in the published article and should be provided in a separate section before the reference list.
  7. This requirement does not apply to the use of basic tools such as grammar checkers, spell checkers, or reference management tools.
  8. We are continuously evaluating compliant AI tools and may update this policy in the future.

Example of a declaration statement:
During the preparation of this work, we used [NAME OF TOOL/SERVICE] for [REASON]. After using this tool/service, we reviewed and edited the content as necessary and take full responsibility for the final version of the published article.

If you have nothing to disclose—meaning no generative AI or AI-assisted technology was used during the writing process—you may state:
We did not use any generative AI or AI-assisted technology during the writing process of this manuscript.

Please note: To protect authors’ rights and the confidentiality of their research, JOCIPP currently prohibits reviewers from using generative AI or AI-assisted technologies during the peer review process. JOCIPP also does not permit editors to use generative AI in the editorial process.

Please refer to our policy regarding the use of generative AI and AI-assisted tools in figures, images, and artwork:

JOCIPP does not allow the use of generative AI or AI-assisted tools to create or modify images in submitted manuscripts.
The only exception is when such tools are integral to the research design or methodology. In such cases, authors must describe the use in a reproducible manner in the methods section, including the model or tool name, version and extension numbers, and manufacturer.
The use of generative AI or AI-assisted tools to produce artwork, including graphical abstracts, is not permitted. The use of generative AI for cover art may be allowed in certain cases, provided the author receives prior approval from the journal editor and publisher, demonstrates that all required rights have been secured, and ensures proper content attribution.
