This study aims to examine the emotional development of children from early childhood education (PAUD) to elementary school within the context of local culture in Bangka Belitung. A qualitative approach with an ethnographic method was employed to gain an in-depth understanding of the interaction between culture and children’s emotional development. Data collection techniques included participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving children, parents, teachers, and community leaders. The findings show that local cultural practices such as nganggung traditions, folklore, and cultural expressions play an important role in shaping children’s social emotions, such as empathy, togetherness, and emotional regulation skills. However, technological development and social change have reduced children’s involvement in local cultural practices, which in turn has led to a decline in the quality of their social-emotional interactions. Therefore, the integration of local cultural values into both formal and informal education is essential to support optimal emotional development in children.
